Colorado Calling

It seems I’ve forgotten about the blog. Maybe because Tori’s at school. Maybe because of work. Who knows? But on a recent trip the twins said, multiple times, if you are going to use that photo for the blog…if you are going to talk about this on the blog…They remembered the blog. We are still here, doing our thing. The blog is still here, documenting us in some way. We might be down a teenager these days but the twins are right. The show must go on.
And we were recently all reunited in Denver! We flew out to see my brother and his family on a long holiday weekend. We looked at Tori’s school calendar and realized she had a random day off at the start of that weekend. We got her on a plane and brought her out. We waited at the airport until she arrived and then made our way to the hotel, where the kids all tumbled together like the old days. We loved having her with us and realized in retrospect, what was so great was that we saw her! No girlfriends or boyfriends stopping by. No where to go at night. It was ideal (for us). Definitely worth repeating!
We spent one day doing a college tour at University of Colorado at Boulder. Stunningly beautiful in the bright sunshine, which by the way was stressed in the college talk. 300 days of sunshine per year! Our young cousins joined us for the day and thus for the talk. One took notes during the talk. I glanced at what she had written: GPA, 90% and the kids in photos look happy. An accurate sum up! It all looked very nice, though decidedly more upscale than when I was last there- 33 years ago! I did walk past an establishment I remembered. Suds and Duds, a laundromat that served beer. Of course it has stood the test of time.
The next day we drove up for a day of skiing. Phil and the girls were a go- and have skied a number of times this past season. Adam though has been off of skis for a couple of years. Just too far to fall now that he is so tall. But this time he gamely got in on the action. It was a last-minute decision and he skied the whole day in sweatpants. It was a cold day but he toughed it out and we were proud.
Beyond that, we had time with the little cousins, family meals and a trip to the zoo. Easy to see the benefits of going to college near family!
